Parish Updates from Fr Casey

Dear Parish Family,

You all are very supportive of Seton, our parish home. Transparency in stewarding the resources you have entrusted to our parish is of huge importance for me. So I have some good, and some less-than-ideal things to share.

While Mass attendance is still behind our pre-COVID numbers, offertory and donations are exceeding expectations (in particular Holy Week was outstanding). Because the finances at the school have improved, the parish is covering less of the school’s expenses. Also, I commend our hard-working staff for keeping utilities and expenses significantly under budget. This good news means the following:

  • A balanced budget for next year.
  • More tuition assistance for parish students at our K-8 school and St. John Neumann Catholic High School.
  • More funds for our liturgical celebrations
  • More plans for events and improvements to the grounds.

Here’s the not-so-good part. We are significantly behind in our CFA collection. The Catholic Faith Appeal is the annual Diocesan appeal that supports (among other things) Catholic Charites, seminarians, and poorer parishes. Our CFA goal for this year is $200,000. As a point of reference, this goal amount is the second lowest in the southern deanery (10 parishes).

Anything we collect above the goal comes back to us. If we do not make that goal, the parish pays the difference at the beginning of next year. Currently, our CFA pledge is at $139,976 (70% of goal) and the collected amount at the Diocese is $114,011 (57%). Currently, 16% of parish families have contributed to the CFA. All of these numbers are lower than 2020 and 2019 at this point in the fiscal year, and I am concerned.

If all the families that have not yet contributed to the CFA were to send in $60, we would make our goal. So, I am asking that every family prayerfully consider what you can do to help support our parish and the greater apostolate of the Diocese. If you can give more, then you are, in a way, supporting a family that needs to contribute a lesser amount. We, as a parish family, are truly together in the “all of this” of our time.

God bless you all. Thank you for all you do for myself, our parish, our school and our community.

In Our Risen Lord,

-Fr. Casey
